These are my favourite movies that I watched for the first time in 2016. What they have in common is that they all left me wanting to watch them again…before they were even over. Of the 100 movies I first watched that year, they were the most satisfying to me. More than any others, these felt like ‘events’ and miracles of movie-making, each a privilege to watch, made just for me.
In these movies, everything felt so right and perfect for me. Their acting, storytelling, dialogue, direction, atmosphere, tone, humour, and ideas seemed exquisitely crafted to fully gratify the movie needs of my brain and heart. I treasure them all.
The 10 movies below got me to smile, care, learn, think, enjoy, and wonder what’s going to happen next with more interest, curiosity, and intensity than any others I’d never watched before.
